Wellness examinations -
At
North
Main
Animal
Hospital
we believe that disease prevention and

early detection of problems is the most effect way to
ensure the good health of your pets. We send annual
reminders for wellness examinations to all of our patients
as well as reminders for laboratory tests and dental care
that some of our patients require.
Our four-legged family members age more quickly
than we do and therefore require more frequent check-ups,
especially in their senior years.

Senior pet care -
Because pets age more quickly than humans and have
unique healthcare needs, we promote a senior wellness
program for cats and dogs eight years and older.
The senior wellness screening includes a complete
blood count, chemistry profile, thyroid test, urinalysis and
fecal exam.
For animals over 10 years old or those at greater risk a
more comprehensive plan would include, chest and abdominal
radiographs (x-rays). These services are all discounted as
part of the senior wellness program.
Older dogs and cats are more prone to certain
disease processes such as dental disease and obesity.
We provide comprehensive oral health and
dentistry services as well as weight control programs and
medication.
Talk to one of our staff about your senior pet and what
programs might be beneficial to them. |

Preventive medicine -
Preventive medicine is
probably the most important service we offer to your pet.
Vaccinations, heartworm testing and prevention, flea
prevention and nutritional counseling are just a few of our
preventive medical services.
Keeping your pets healthy is far easier and more
cost effective than diagnosing and treating diseases once
they have already occurred. |

Complete laboratory testing, including blood work,
urinalysis, fecal analysis, cytology and more
-
Our
on-site laboratory facilities are state-of-the-art and
staffed by highly qualified
and
knowledgeable technicians.
Most tests are run at North Main Animal
Hospital and
therefore results are ready the same day if not within the
hour.
For those tests which can not be run here we send them
to a national lab with most results available the following
morning.
This ability to have accurate laboratory results quickly
is an invaluable tool to help us diagnose your pet.

X-rays and Ultrasound -
X-ray is an essential
tool that we use to view the heart, lungs,
 abdominal
organs and bones.
We also do specialized x-rays such as dye studies
and dental x-rays.
Ultrasound is another imaging method we use to
look at internal organs. |

pharmaceuticals and products for your convenience.
If we don’t have what your pet needs, we will get
it quickly or write a prescription so that you can obtain it
on your own.
We also carry several complete lines of
veterinary prescription foods for your pets special dietary

Comprehensive Dental Care -
We feel that a
strong dental health-care program is one the
most
important facets of our or veterinary practice.
Studies show that more than 80 percent of dogs
and 70 percent of cats by age three show some signs of gum
disease. Studies
also show that having healthy teeth and gums can add two to
three years to your pet’s life expectancy.
When infection exists in the mouth, that bacteria
can spread through the blood stream to vital organs
such
as the heart or kidneys.
This is the leading cause of both heart disease
and kidney failure in older patients.
Through routine dental cleanings and at home
dental care that risk can be eliminated.
We offer comprehensive dental services including
dental radiography (x-rays) and oral surgery.
We also carry a complete line of at home products
to keep your pet’s teeth and gums healthy. |

Hospitalization –
When our patients need
to be hospitalized, our fully trained and licensed nursing
staff is ever-present to tend to their needs.
We have an intensive care center for post
surgical recovery as well as sick patients.
We also have an isolation room for those patients
that may be contagious.
We do not have 24 hour nursing care at
North Main, so for those patients that may
need over night care, we have several facilities that we
recommend for 24 hour intensive care or observation. |

Surgery and Anesthesia – North
Main Animal Hospital
offers a well equipped and expertly
staffed
surgical service.
We schedule surgery in the morning, 5 days a week.
Most of our
surgical patients are ready to return home in the afternoon.
Our services include most general surgical procedures as
well as some orthopedic procedures.
If your pet needs a procedure that we do not
offer we will refer you to a veterinary surgical specialist
in the area.
Most surgery requires general anesthesia and this is a
source of great concern for many pet owners.
We use the latest in anesthetic drugs and
technology as well as many monitoring parameters throughout
all of our procedures.
We use heart, respiratory and blood pressure
monitors on all of our anesthetized patients.
We also
monitor blood oxygen levels and ECGs.
Pain management is a high priority at North
Main
Animal
Hospital
and we take every step necessary to keep your pet as
comfortable and pain free as possible. |
